Marty Bies

Meet Marty

What do you do at Mission?

As an Account Executive, my job is to do anything that allows our customers to be amazingly successful designing with our Business Partners’ products.

How did you end up in this field?

I discovered an aptitude for technology in high school, which led me to Honeywell and an associate degree in Electronics.  I did IT work for a few years and learned I liked working in the field.  My curiosity led me to the sales side of electronics over 24 years ago.

What do you like to do outside of work?

I enjoy hobbies that result in things that either make life easier, fun, or more enjoyable. If I can create something, I will attempt it. I now enjoy making things for our growing family which includes my and Lisa’s three grown children, son-in-law, and soon to be two grandkids.

What’s your favorite thing you’ve been a part of at Mission?

I worked with a team of engineers developing a tool that needed to operate in very difficult conditions.  Many electronic manufacturers told them it could not be done.  One of our Business Partners thought it was possible.  Two years of collaborating resulted in a highly successful product that is still in production.

What’s the nerdiest thing about you? I used to wear a Casio calculator watch in high school.  I still have several.

If a movie was made about your life, who would play you? Richard Karn, who plays Al Borland in Home Improvement.  At the height of the TV show, I was attending Networld+Interop in Vegas, enjoying dinner at the Luxor, when an older couple came up and asked if they could take a picture with me.  I had to explain that, while I am quite handy, I was not Richard.

What band would you raise $100K to have play in your living room? Diesel Drive.  Although my son-in-law’s band would likely play for less, the money would certainly be helpful to them as their family grows.  In general, I think it would be awkward to pay a stranger to appear in my house.

If you could be an extra in any movie or show, what would it be and why? Real Genius with Val Kilmer.  I loved the nerdiness of that movie.
